Fraunhofer IWKS

Fraunhofer Research Institution for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies IWKS (leading)

The Fraunhofer IWKS pursues the strategic goal of developing processes for the recovery of recyclable materials as a business model. One focus is on the development of sorting processes on an industrial scale. The modular sorting system is used for this purpose, allowing industrial sorting challenges to be researched and innovative sorting sensor technology to be upscaled. For example, a process for sorting shredded smartphones was developed as part of the EU project “DISPLAY”. The sorting of electronic assemblies is being researched as part of the “IRVE” project. In addition, projects on sensor-based sorting were carried out with industrial partners. This provides key expertise that can be used to offer technologically and economically attractive solutions in key areas of the circular economy for industrial partners.
